Estate Planning In Quarantine - Now It's Possible!
If we've learned anything this week, it's that we don't know what to expect anymore. The world has changed drastically in a matter of days. And if you're from Washington State, you have been on this roller coaster with us, particularly the last few days. What we all keep saying is "everything feels so weird..."
Hand sanitizer and toilet paper is sold out everywhere. People aren't going out. School is out for 6 weeks. Virtually all sporting events have been cancelled. Bands have stopped touring. Hell, it even snowed here in Washington today and it's Friday the 13th! It's madness! Right?
We've all worried about ourselves, our kiddos, our elderly family members. I worry about them too. But the thoughts i have when I wake up and when I go to sleep are about my elderly clients with compromised health. My sweet client who is in an assisted care facility where her children can only see her through her glass door and windows because the facility cannot let them in and potentially expose the residents. An incredibly intelligent and dear client of mine who is currently suffering from significant side effects of chemotherapy and raditation and cannot come to my office to sign documents for fear of exposing himself to COVID-19 or other viral infections. A client who has had stage 4 breast cancer for over 10 years who finally wants to get her estate planning done but can't leave her house to do it. My new clients who are over 60 and are worried about leaving their home because their age puts them in the "high-risk" category.
In my office, we have been working diligently to find ways to accommodate these important people and ensure that they are getting what they need from us. We are lucky enough to be practicing law in a day and age where technology allows us to reach our clients and have meaningful communication with them despite the international emergency. I also have a brave and dedicated staff who are so loyal to our clients and will do whatever needs to be done to take care of them. During these hard times, I am reminded that there is something wonderfully peaceful about getting your estate planning done. It's productive. You feel better having done it. You can check it off your list. And forget about it for awhile while you focus on more important things.
Not surprisingly, Orbit Wills has been a wonderful resource for people during these strange times. It's a resource for people to get estate planning done without leaving their house. We have been working hard over the last few weeks to make it even easier to get this done and signed and behind you so your will or health care power of attorney are not things you need to be worrying about right now; so you can focus on your health and where you're going to get your toilet paper! Best news is that, by using Orbit Wills, we can serve those elderly clients who would not otherwise be able to get this done locally and throughout the state. That is helping me sleep better at night.
- the questionnaire is completely online
- our communication with you is strictly over email or on the phone
- it only takes 3 days to get you the documents (you can choose 1-2 days, as well, if you want them quicker)
- you download and print your own documents (or you can choose to have us mail them to you)
- we have updated the documents so no notary is required - you can sign everything with two witnesses! (instructions come with your documents)
If you or any family members or friends have questions about Orbit Wills and what we are doing to help make this available to everyone during this weird time, please shoot me an email at email@example.com. We're here to help and can make things happen to help your family members and friends put their minds at ease.
